Al-Manara University Holds a Symposium on Freedom of Expression and Its Legal Boundaries
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Abdulbasit Mohsen Iyad, President of Al-Manara University, the Human Rights Division organized a symposium titled “Freedom of Expression and Its Legal Boundaries” on March 18, 2025. The event was attended by a number of students and faculty members as part of the university’s efforts to enhance awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The symposium was presented by Dr. Ahmed Al-Sudani, Director of the Human Rights Division, who discussed the concept of freedom of expression and the key legal regulations governing its practice. He emphasized that freedom of opinion and expression is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society, as it allows individuals to exercise their rights and contribute to the development of their communities. However, he pointed out that this freedom is not absolute but is subject to legal restrictions designed to prevent violations and ensure a balance between individual rights and the public interest.
The symposium featured active engagement and insightful discussions, with students posing questions and sharing their perspectives on the laws regulating freedom of expression. Their participation reflected a strong awareness of the topic’s significance and its role in building a cohesive society that respects rights and freedoms.
